Storyfying
by Jeremy Cawley
5th–8th March
Born in Stoke, North Staffordshire. Cawley is self-taught and started painting after being made redundant. At first, he drew illustrations to accompany the verse he had started to write and perform. The artist began painting scenes of Stoke’s past based on stories told him. Cawley wanted to capture the life but also the beauty of the people and the place.
The artist lives in Tulse Hill, south London. He paints scenes of pubs which re-imagine the characters, tall tales and the myths and legends of our once great British boozer.
This exhibition is a collection of paintings amassed over the last six months and a few culled from the last show. In Storyfying, the artist wants to create visual narratives based on stories from moments in time. They are images of people, places, of real life, of memories, of tales from our past.
