The Joy of Company

by Jeremy Cawley

27th–31st August 2025

Born in Stoke, North Staffordshire, Jeremy Cawley is a self-taught painter who captures life from the stories told him. The artist started painting after he was made redundant. At first, Jeremy drew illustrations to accompany the verse he had started to write and perform. The artist began painting scenes of Stoke’s past.

“I wanted to capture life but also the beauty of the people and the place”.

Jeremy Cawley lives in Tulse Hill, south London. He paints scenes of pubs which re-imagine the characters, tall tales and the myths and legends “of our once great British boozer”.

This exhibition is a collection of paintings and pastels amassed over the last four years. The illustrations and verse reflect the period between 2010–2015.
The theme, the joy of company, is a celebration of people, place, of stories and real life

“I want to capture that spirit of togetherness and bring to life the characters and moments that remind us of the joy of company”.
